In Asheville, North Carolina, a beloved holiday tradition has taken on a new life.
The Omni Grove Park Inn’s annual gingerbread competition, previously held solely at the Inn as a showcase of artistry, has transformed into the “Gingerbread Trail of Giving.”
This year, gingerbread creations crafted by local artists are displayed across 45 local businesses, turning the community into a festive walking tour.
The goal? To bring holiday cheer, encourage foot traffic to small businesses, and support recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene.
While the idea is simple—spread the displays throughout the city—it’s amplified with a small dose of tech. Each display includes a QR code, making it easy for visitors to donate directly to the Always Asheville Fund. This thoughtful tweak has turned a festive tradition into a community lifeline.
It’s proof that innovation doesn’t always mean complex technology. Sometimes, it’s about looking at what exists and rethinking it—rethinking where and how it works, and adding just enough tech to simplify and enhance the impact.
This 🎄 festive season 🎄, let’s remember: small ideas, when reimagined, can make a big difference.
Wishing you peace, joy, and inspiration this holiday season!
Great example of thinking differently.
